We expect children under 13 to be accompanied by an adult.
Please Bear With Us
In 2021 WENA received a Caring Community Grant from Maine Medical Center to develop and support activities for neighborhood residents in the Reiche Community Room. Since the Reiche branch of the Portland Public Library closed in 2010, WENA has struggled to preserve that public space for the neighborhood.
In conjunction with the Rec Department and the PPL, we opened the Book Nook in 2012. Whenever WENA has activities in the Community Room, people are welcome to browse the book collection and may borrow books without a library card. We have regular hours from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday-Friday.
From 8:15-9:15 a.m. every day we have an exercise class. Balance, strength & flexibility with dvd are on M, W, Th; Tuesdays 8:15-9:15 is tai chi chih with instructor, Sara Leonard; and on Fridays from 8:15-9:15 we do tai chi with dvd. All are welcome, the routines are especially suited for older adults. Classes are free.
Since we received the MMC funding, we’ve also been able to offer activities Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. , as well as on Thursdays from 4 – 8 p.m. We’re in a learning phase of seeing what activities people like enough that they’ll come out and participate.
Please stop by if you see something that interests you. If you have an idea of something that would be fun to offer, drop a note to hello@wenamaine.org.
We publish a monthly calendar on our CALENDAR tab and that’s the best place to find out what’s scheduled. If we don’t get good attendance, we have to reassess and offer something else. All the activities are free of charge. Donations to WENA are welcome and greatly appreciated.
